Rear end resto

Once safe and sound in my garage i decided to next drop out the rear subframe and get to work detailing it up. I have stripped it bare and am currently in the process of painting up/inspecting everything for wear. Once im done i will reassemble the entire frame and refit to the car. While the rear end is gutted under the car i am going to freshly stone guard the underside. It should look a treat once its all done.

One happy owner

After months of waiting it had all finally paid off as i inspected the car after it had been painted. There were still a few thing unfinished but overall it was nearly complete as far as the body was concerned.
Soon after i was happy to see it pull up out the front of my garage on the back of a tow truck. The way they had covered the car for the trip back was excellent. There wasnt one part of the car that didnt have protective plastic on it.

Preparation

After everything was straight and had been given the ok, it was onto the paint prep stage. After much hard decision i decided to choose the R34 Sparkling silver metallic (coarse variant). I loved the way it shimmered in the sun. Im yet to see that properly with the actual car, as its spent most of its time indoors.
Anyway first a primer was applied and all the panels were blocked back.

Repair work

Next came the large repair process and parts supply. I had a new rear quarter fitted, new rear quarter inner sections, new radiator support panel, new right hand sill section, new bonnet, 2nd hand front guards, and 2nd hand right side door. The front left hit caused the end of the chassis rail to become kinked so once it was on the Auto Robot that was straightened out and everything else was checked for factory specifications.

Strip tease

Once the engine was removed i had the large job of removeing pretty much every other component. For those who dont know, there are literally hundreds of modules and parts on the GTR. The engine bay is especially packed with extra technology way advanced for its time. I would have to have hundreds of sealable bags in my dedicated 'car room'. Its insane how much there is to one of these cars when u strip it all apart!

The work begins

After the accident i moved upto Brisbane the next day and a few months later had the car freighted up join me. Next i had to choose a panel shop which was hard considering i had only just moved here and knew no one! After much debate i decided on Darwens Auto Body Repair. It is owned and operated by John Boukouras. I can't fault his attention to detail in the work he has done for me. He has been excellent to deal with over the past nearly 12 months!
I removed the engine after deciding on what i was after.

The Big Hit

Im originally from Melbourne and had planned to move upto Brisbane, QLD in search of work. However the day before the move was planned trouble struck.
17/09/05
I was minding my own business not even doing the speed limit travelling along Nepean Hwy, Gardenvale, Melbourne (for those who know where that is). Anyway i had noticed an accident in the service lane, it had been raining earlier. Anyway after a split second look off to the side of the road i looked back to find all traffic stopped up ahead under the train bridge. It was a fair way off so i wasent too concerned until i tried to stop. All wheels locked immediately (ABS did not function) and i began to slide towards the stopped traffic. The cars were stopped next to eachother right accross the 4 lanes so i had no where to go apart from a gap half the width of my car between the bridge support and the far left lane car. Of course the car began to step out as i tried to aim for the gap ending up causing the right rear quarter to impact the left hand rear corner of the car in the far left lane. The front left of the car hit the bridge support and the front right hit the side of the other car. After pulling over into the service lane and getting out i noticed the ground covered in a white sheet of hail! I was devastated to say the least, as my mint R32 GTR was not so mint anymore!
